Steps to Update your App (Android)
1) Connect to Wi-Fi. It is not absolutely necessary to be connected to Wi-Fi to update apps; you can do so with a 3G or 4G LTE cellular connection. However, apps often use a great deal of data when they are updating, so connect to Wi-Fi to keep your cellular data usage low.
2) Locate the Google Play Store on your Android device. Search your device's screens until you find the icon for the Play Store. If you do not have the Play Store on any of your screens, you can find your installed apps from your dock.
- In your dock, there is an icon that looks like a grid of white squares. Tap that grid, and you will be navigated to all of the apps installed on your Android device. Scroll through the pages of installed apps until you find the Play Store.
3) Open the Play Store. Upon locating the Play Store icon, tap it with your finger to open it. Allow it to fully load before proceeding on to the next step.
4) Touch the Menu icon, which looks like three horizontal bars stacked on top of each other. From the menu that appears, tap My Apps.
- Once you navigate into the My Apps page, you will be shown all of the apps that you have installed on your Android device.
- Apps that have an update available will be labeled with “Update.”
5) Tap Update or Update All. On the My Apps page, you will be shown all installed apps that have updates available. You need to select whether you only want to update certain apps, in which case you would tap Update next to the specific apps, or whether you want to update all of them by tapping Update All.
6) Accept the terms of the app. For most apps, a new window will appear letting you know what kind of information the app will access and use as part of its functionality. You will need to press Accept to update the app. If you do not, the app will not update.
7) Allow the app to update. You can open other apps while you wait, but do not kill the Google Play Store app. This will cause your update to stop. You can check the progress of your update in your notification panel by swiping down from the top of your screen. You will also see a downward arrow pointing toward a short horizontal line in your notification bar at the very top of your screen while the app updates.
